Roglic to pull a Hinault by attacking Kuss in order to "help" him win the Vuelta.

Have you forgot about Van Hooydonk on Pogacars wheel at Champs?

I'm still holding out hope for Roglič on Evenepoel's wheel in this Vuelta... 5 minutes ahead of the bunch.

Come on Remco, don't you dare DNS.

As I insinuated previously, such an act of treachery must be accomplished with plausible deniability, i.e. "I'm just covering a rival's attack"... which turns into gaining minutes on the road.

...

In reality I expect an extremely streamlined final week from Jumbo: they'll let inconsequential breakaways take stage wins & if UAE or Movistar chase, they'll sit on their wheels & counter at end. I expect a lot of choo-choo train up the cols now. All for Kuss.

86 Hinault was the greatest of all time. "I'm just stabbing Greg in the back to help make him stronger!" Love him or hate him there was no one like the Badger!

I am just not seeing that right now to be honest, not with Jonas' form on the rise. Nothing against Jonas at all, I like him, but all is fair in love and war as they say. I still believe Sepp is going to have to win this on the road; it's one thing to gift stages, but try telling a potentially flying Jonas and/or Primosz today or tomorrow that the win is for Sepp regardless of who is the strongest? This isn't Froome/Wiggins we're talking about here.

I REALLY want to see Sepp win this but he is in uncharted territory right now; 2.5 GT's in his legs, never been in a leaders jersey this late in a GT. He looks fantastic at the moment but so did Yates in the GIro. I see TJV doing what they did yesterday at least today, that is a controlled balance between supporting Sepp but also not constraining Jonas (or Primosz if he has the legs) from taking time if they can.

And in all seriousness, for all we know it's going to be Sepp who is the most aggressive. Yes, he's got a couple GT's in his legs but he also did not ride those for GC, he looked fantastic yesterday, and today is perfect terrain for him. We've all seen plenty of times how the leaders jersey gives a rider wings, and Sepp will be gaining confidence each day. I know on paper this looks settled but I really think there is more excitement in store yet. Hope I'm right anyway, it would suck if it turns into a procession today.

Totally serious. The current TDF winner is also a member of the Rolling Stones.

I thought you might be playing a little celebrity lookalike but just had to be sure! Only because for me the LeMond/Keef is a bit of a stretch, but Jonas and Charlie are spot on; that's a true doppelgänger there!.:p

I just can’t see it.

See this awkward meet up after yesterday’s stage. Sepp just a happy puppy, gifted three minutes, still leading…

…and Jonas is thinking ‘I ain’t coming second to Sepp Kuss… not that mofo, no sir.’
nah mate, they are gonna finish 1-2-3 again today while holding hands and singing "you'll never walk alone" or some ***

Their boss is really big on the 'win together' mantra. Zeeman has said this is non-negotiable, so they're all in on Kuss. This is supported by Rog & Vinge as well. A bit like Van Aert offering Laporte a little cadeaux earlier this year.

The problem will arise if Kuss drops. That's when they're in deep sh*t because the team cannot make the decision regarding who wins or loses between Vingegaard & Rog.

The loss of Evenepoel in GC is a bit of a disaster for everyone IMO, potentially for Jumbo as well if we look at possible worst case scenarios where Rog & Vinge are both at the top of GC & merely separated by a few seconds. The one thing Jumbo has never wanted is two of their own riders fighting each other... & it would become unavoidable.

That's why I still don't get why they sent this team to the Vuelta. It has potential to p*ss someone off in the team.

I dont expect Roglic or Vingo to attac Kuss directly. But if someone else from the top 10 attacs and Kuss has trouble following.... I'd not be surprised if Vingo or Rog will take the chance an go for the win. For me the big question is, will it be Vingo or Roglic.? Or both?

I read a Gesink interview the other day in which he pretty much said Rog & Vinge owe Kuss quite a lot for all their GC wins. The team dynamics demand they both work for Kuss, basically.

If one of them attacks Kuss, either directly or indirectly, he's going to be portrayed as a t*rd. And that's not my opinion either, i.e. I think it's very unfair but here we are. As I read elsewhere yesterday, Jumbo essentially brought 3 guns to a knife fight. Remco was a gun but he shot himself, so there's nothing but Jumbos left.

The moment Kuss starts to have a bad moment is the moment all hell breaks loose.

You manage to find something bad in every situation for Jumbo. Chapeau!

I think if Kuss drops, Roglic and Vingegaard will just attack one after the other. They've done it before, you know, quite successfully. If Vingegaard is the one who gets away, all the better for Roglic because he doesn't mind following wheels and sprinting at the end.

The main problem is probably that they need to keep everyone healthy. And if any of them has a flat or a mechanical at a decisive moment, of course neither of them is going to wait for the other. They just have to hope Kelderman or Gesink is still there to help.

Indeed. Jumbo can have all the team meetings they want and make plans to ride for Sepp, but as I wrote in his thread yesterday, Sepp has no experience of riding hard for all three weeks of a GT, and Jonas / Primož won’t dutifully wait for him in the Asturias stages.

Of course, Sepp can win. I don’t expect a procession though.

If Kuss drops, it's an open battle between Rogla and Vingegaard in that stage. Whoever takes red that day will win the race.

Now TJV have done their jobs. And a rethinking from yesterday night I've difficult to see UAE and Bahrain opening the race, doing it yet another day of GC battle in front of the race.

This is a 100% for the breakaway.
I see Michael Storer in my crystal bowl loud and clea....wait no ..who appeared from the mists? was it Kaden!?
OK time for polishing.

Kuss is one thing (I mean it could be theorized they'd always attempt to get him into a break early in the race to cause some problems for the other GC teams), but the big outlier is nobody expected Evenepoel to drop out of contention like that.

Jumbo is totally overpowered now versus the other teams & contenders. The only rivals they have... are each other. That remains a non-issue for as long as Kuss keeps his form.

Feels a lot like a 1991 situation brewing, overpowered team gets less expected rider in the lead early, and they show surprising strength throughout while simultaneously a bunch of stages where they show weakness are abridged or annulled.

The other one that I thought of was 2003, where again an overpowered team got a less expected rider in the lead early in the race, and then with a parcours stupidly heavy on a format that suited them and their continued control, they continued to grind it out until finally reaching their limit right at the end of the race as Heras continued to stalk their man. The problem is, do we have anybody who can realistically play the Heras role when the B- and C-contenders are also on the same team?

Come to think of it, both of those examples were ONCE, who had similar jerseys to Jumbo too.

At least to the best of my knowledge Sepp uses the shower.
