Domingos Gonçalves wins in Portugal.

I thought I knew the name, so I checked and indeed he's the guy who crashed just before the finish when he was about to win, last year

Is he related to the Katusha guy?

brother

That's what they do for every jersey. Only Dumoulin got away with something better for his dutch jersey, only because he's the star, and only after a LOT of complaining and a public spat with the team.

The team say they'll do that for jerseys because bla bla bla sponsorship bla bla
It's pissing on the sport's heritage

They are twins.

So, unlike with the U23 twins, Domingos is a meanie and just takes everything for himself!

Domingos is better at the TT. He also won last year. I don't think José rode today, I can't see him in the top 25. He did the ITT, though.

They were together at Caja-Rural. José had the oportunity to jump to the WT after one year, but he decided to stay with Caja because they promissed him they would also offer a contract extension to his brother for an extra year.

I hope he gets another chance at pro-continental level.

The way I remember it Dumoulin initially got a pretty good jersey, then they started the whole "sponsorship bla bla bla".
Then Dumoulin was smart enough to become World Champion!

I'm not a fan of those sideways flag jerseys that many like but that Sinkeldam jersey isn't great either.

Rivera is the women’s team star and USA Cycling is one of the national federations that insists on a proper jersey. I don’t think they’ll screw it up, particularly as Rivera really, really wants to wear a Stars and Stripes jersey for a year.

Sagan wins after a 90 km solo effort (his 2nd solo attempt in the race) with 2:16 on the next rider. Pretty incredible. Then again the quality of riders was low.
2.16 isn't insane when you consider its a 90 km solo tbh. Froome won with 3 minutes!
Against a much better field.

Thanks for putting things in perspective (eg, Froome was crazy)

Perspective...
Yeah let's compare the race profiles and check the perspective again.

I know it's been worked out before, but when was the last mass-start road race (ie, not TT) that Peter Sagan started in his regular trade team jersey? He's obviously just postponed the next time by at least another 9 months after he (potentially) relinquishes his world title later this year.

Tour de Suisse 2011 iirc.

Unfortunately, we compare something that is incomparable. As much I would like to see Sagan TT as Froome does, or at least close to it, this is not a case here. Sagan was riding against nobody or nobody cared about Sagan in this race. Peter is 2 levels better than any other Slovak rider and Czechs were riding their own race.
They were riding all against Kreuziger and Styby and when Kreuziger got tired of it and gave it up, it was Styby against everybody. Unfortunately for him, Czech continental team Elkov - Author (ELA) with Barta, Černy is pretty strong and they played their numbers well.

Unfortunately, this race only showed us how poor is cycling in our country (Slovakia) in spite of all popularity. Slovak conti teams have not even tried fight against Sagan, not even one single round. Probably in 15 years :D

Again, perspective. You’re a small country and he’s the best cyclist in the world. I only caught the later years of Kelly and Roche in the 80s and early 90s, and my only advice to you would be enjoy watching Sagan now, and take it for what it is. And when another good Slovak rider comes along, don’t expect him to compare.
