I love that Pogacar is going for all 5 monuments and racing P-R. But I honestly think he might be risking his RvV by not doing any of the warm up races. Usually the winner of that race does race at least one of them:

2024: E3, G-W
2023: E3
2022: DdV
2021: E3, DdV
2020: G-W

I remember we had a conversation about this topic. I think we’re both surprised it came already this year? But why not. He is a pure ciclismo at heart. I think we both see a certain someone else as a good favorite here for good reasons, but honestly, I like that Pog just doesn’t care, he’s also almost ridiculously strong now, reinventing how they even ride MSR now.

There are a few unknowns regarding PR to what extent at least, and hopefully, we get a few answers there. It also serves as a learning curve for future years and for his case more planning around it with clever methodologies and specific, gain weight around it. If he’s ever going to stand atop, he needs the experience, in my eyes, he’s got nothing to lose. (aside from the risk of a brutal crash)

A crash is the main risk but results-wise nothing to lose. Not #1 favourite, race just to see how he compares vs PR specialists and if future attempts make sense. Sure he will want to win but it's difficult OFC.

As for his participation, when he had a recon of all cobbles sectors I started thinking the start is likely soon. When he said it was easier than he thought I realized that bosses of the team may not be able to prevent him from racing it anymore.

Idk why some are taking this info as a joke. There was a clear swelling on both faces & its said pog broke his teeth during the fight so the management thought its better to hide them from public for some time so that it remains a secret within the team. Do you think its coincidence both are missing their original program of E3 & ghent? U can mention a reason for pog but narvaez was preparing for this races all winter😳

Well, for your usual Flanders contender these races are amongst the most important in the calendar so it doesn't make sense to skip them.

For Pogacar these races are quite low in the pecking order, so skipping them isn't much of a surprise in the grand scheme of things.

Dizzy Vingegaard and crashed Pog in TdF. Roglič might have a shot there, but he's going to crash during flat stages in the first week anyway. Remco all the way..?

Merckx best combined monument score in one year was 11, Kelly/Moser 18, De Vlaemink 23, van Looy never rode all 5, neither did Gilbert.
How low can pog go?
