Will Hindley win the Giro d'Italia

That’s Hindley vs Vingegaard now, and the advantage is with Hindley…
Vingegaard closed almost two minutes on the climb. And I don't think Hindley lost a lot of extra energy in the break. He never had to ride before the climb. Hindley vs. Pogacar might be interesting but should nothing unforseeable happen, Vingegaard will decide when others are dropped uphill on pretty much discretion. Like last year.

Hindley has a similar development trajectory to Vingegaard, as noted above. He seemed to have taken the criticism of the 2020 Giro personally, despite his generally mild-mannered demeanor, and did whatever he needed to do to improve his TT and prove the doubters wrong. Don't underestimate the power of a perceived slight...he knows that everyone thinks JV is significantly better, too...

Poor guy with his 1 day leader jersey streak BUT I was still kinda impressed. Kudos for him to try as the only one to follow at first but being actually smart of not blowing up and he was still good on the last climb. Overall he had to go the deepest yesterday, was forced out of rythm today and still didn't lose time to anyone bar Jonas and Pog. The big shame is that due to the Buchmann vs WVA ITT and lack of othes helping he lost a full minute more than it could've been.

Best of the rest after being in the break all day long yesterday, I think that's acceptable.
I also think that gap doesn't reflect his level today. He could've gone quicker on Tourmalet, just not THAT quick and therefore had to sit up to be with a group followed by big time losses in the valley after. He's not on the level of Vingegaard and Pog but I reckon he's closer than Thomas last year.

Big test coming up for Hindley on Puy de Dôme.

He needs to race his own race. Just like G Thomas last year.

It means not going into the red zone following the extraterrestrials up front but still attacking the likes of Gaudu & the rest. I think Hindley is well on schedule to getting 3rd, not just because of his breakaway the other day but because he's literally the third best climber in the Tour.

I think the differences between Hindley and Rodriguez/Yates/Yates/Gaudu has been super small so far, so it is definitely because of the break. Looking at how good he TT-ed in the Dauphine the margin he has now should definitely be sufficient, but without the break I would be far from certain.

Especially Rodriguez is very strong and I might see him grow a bit more in the next two weeks.

The only podium contender he shipped a bit time to in the last two days is Pidcock. Simon just got a few seconds back from his crash yesterday and the differences to Adam and Rodriguez were quite small.

So all in all still fine place to be at, but tbh I was expecting a bit more from him today.
